SensationALL Singers

I have recently begun assisting in running a community choir in Westhill with the charity SensationAll. The idea and aims of the choir are to involve the whole community, with particular focus on involving those who have multiple support needs.

The choir hopes to involve singing, signing, musical instruments and any other means in which to involve everyone and have everyone participate to a great extent.

The benefits of singing in a choir are both physical and psychological.

  • As singing is an aerobic activity it increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises muscles in the upper body – even while sitting!
  • Your body produces endorphins, the ‘feel good’ hormones when you sing, linking to our sense of emotional well-being.
  • When people sing together they feel an increased sense of community, belonging and a shared endeavour.
  • Singing in a choir has also been seen to lower your blood pressure, boost your immunity and increases lung capacity.
  • And last but not least…singing within a choir is fun!

We have started off the choir singing some songs using percussion instruments, popular songs such as Bruno Mars’ ‘Marry You’, John Denver’s ‘Sunshine on my Shoulder’ and many more to come!

If you would like to come along and join the choir we will be rehearsing in an informal manner, with space for those who wish to take time out to do so, at The Old School House in Westhill on Wednesdays from 6.30 until 7.45pm.

Hope to see you there. Everyone is welcome!
